I’m April Christman, LCSW, a therapeutic life coach, walking alongside individuals in life’s hardest moments, helping them write their next chapter with hope and purpose.

Maybe you’re standing at a crossroads, wondering which way to turn. Or you’re carrying pain from the past that still feels heavy today. You might look like you have it all together on the outside, but inside, you’re exhausted and unsure if things can ever really change.
I’ve been there. I know what it’s like to feel stuck, broken, and uncertain about the future. I also know what it takes to rebuild, to heal, and to find hope again. That’s why I became a therapeutic life coach.
Not just to help people cope, but to walk alongside them with real understanding, practical tools, and the kind of compassion that comes from knowing what it feels like to wonder if you’ll ever feel whole again.
This page is my story. But it’s also about you. Because every part of my journey has prepared me to help others like you find their way forward.

I spent ten years of my life struggling with drugs and alcohol. It started when I was just 13 years old. I was dealing with my parents’ divorce, low self-esteem, and emotions I didn’t know how to face. So I numbed out. I made destructive choices. I damaged relationships. I felt angry, lost, and worthless.
At 23, I hit a breaking point. I went to a wilderness intervention program in Utah, a primitive backpacking program in the freezing cold winter. We had a tarp and paracord to roll our backpacks and make shelter. We gathered fire materials to bust fire and eat hot.
We used a map and a compass to navigate. I completed a solo night hike, walking 23 miles in the dark desert under moonlight. It was intense. It was hard. And it changed everything.

Within two weeks of being out there, I knew what my calling was. I discovered my gift: to be a catalyst for change to others, to walk alongside people in their own journey of healing, growth, and self-discovery. That’s when everything shifted.
I finished my bachelor’s degree, went back and worked at that wilderness program for three years as trail staff, guiding and helping struggling teenagers and young adults.
I knew my path involved continuing to help others, which led me to pursue deeper clinical training. I attended the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, earned my Master’s degree, and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Let's Get Started

But my struggles didn’t end there. I’ve walked through marriage betrayal and infidelity. I know what it feels like to be blindsided by someone you trusted completely.
I’ve had to learn how to make amends, repair damaged relationships, and understand that forgiveness is a choice, even when it’s really, really hard.
I’ve also been managing an undiagnosed autoimmune disorder for over a decade. Some days, the fatigue is crushing. The brain fog makes even simple tasks feel impossible. I’ve had to learn to listen to my body, how to say no, and to slow down within a culture that tells us to go-go-go.
I know what it means when your body feels like it’s working against you.
These experiences taught me something textbooks never could: healing isn’t linear, and it doesn’t look the same for anyone.
That’s why I approach this work the way I do. With patience. With curiosity. With the kind of presence that comes from knowing what it feels like to wonder if healing is even possible. I don’t see you as broken. I see you as someone who’s been carrying too much for too long. And I know how to help you put some of that weight down.
My experiences with drug and alcohol abuse taught me about shame, grace, and the power of second chances. My marriage struggles taught me about betrayal, forgiveness, and rebuilding trust.
My autoimmune journey taught me about resilience, self-compassion, and the importance of honoring your body’s limits. All of these chapters have prepared me to walk side-by-side with you, wherever you are on your journey.

Despite dealing with the ongoing challenges of an autoimmune disorder, I haven’t stopped living. This past summer, my brother was dreaming of solving a real-life treasure hunt, a million-dollar treasure hidden somewhere in the Western United States.
He’s analytical and determined, and he asked me to join him on two separate trips, driving over 20 hours and hiking through the wilderness searching for it.
Was I exhausted? Absolutely. Did my body protest? Yes.
But those trips also reminded me what it means to show up for the people you love, to embrace adventure even when it’s hard, and to find joy in the unexpected. Those are core memories now.
Time with my brother in beautiful places I’d never been. That’s what healing looks like in real life. Not perfection, but presence. I look forward to every day, even the hard ones.
Because I know what it’s like to wonder if joy is even possible anymore. And I’ve learned that it is.
That’s what I want for you, too.

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 18 years of experience working as a therapist before transitioning to therapeutic life coaching. I’ve worked with teenagers, young adults, and adults of all ages navigating anxiety, trauma, depression, relationship struggles, and life transitions.
I’ve led groups in the wilderness, sat with clients in traditional therapy rooms, schools, and their homes. I was the Clinical Director of a therapeutic-boarding school for 5 years before starting my own private practice.
My clinical training gives me a strong foundation in evidence-based approaches like EMDR, CBT, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care. But my lived experience gives me something textbooks can’t teach: empathy, patience, and the ability to sit with you in the hard stuff without flinching.
I’ve been there. I know the way through. And I’m here to walk it with you.

I specialize in working with individuals who are navigating life’s hardest moments. People who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of their next step. Who’ve been through hard things and are ready to heal, grow, and move forward with purpose.
What makes working together different:
I focus on empowering you to trust yourself, communicate your needs, and rebuild your sense of self-worth and identity.
Anxiety, overwhelm, relationship struggles, life transitions, trust issues, disconnection, Chronic stress, and rebuilding after loss or change.
EMDR, CBT, mindfulness, breathwork, communication skills, goal setting, and faith-based coaching (if desired).
I bring both real-life understanding and professional expertise. I’ve walked through drug and alcohol abuse recovery, marriage betrayal, chronic illness, and personal rebuilding. I know what it takes to heal because I’ve done it.

I transitioned from traditional therapy to therapeutic life coaching because I wanted to offer something more personal, more flexible, and more focused on you as a whole person.
This is about genuine relationships and collaboration, not clinical distance. I walk alongside you, not above you. You are able to reach out in between scheduled sessions on those extra tough days and touch base as needed throughout your journey.
I truly love hearing a person’s life story.. We explore your entire story, the good and the hard, to understand what’s keeping you stuck and help you move forward.
Work with me from anywhere in the country without navigating insurance networks or state licensing restrictions.
You don’t need a DSM label to work with me. I meet you where you are, focusing on your story and goals.

Working together starts with one simple conversation. No pressure. No judgment. Just a chance to talk about what’s going on, what you’re hoping for, and how we can work together to help you move forward.
If it feels like the right fit, we’ll create a plan that works for you, at your pace, in ways that feel safe and supportive. Because I work virtually, I can support people anywhere in the United States.
Wherever you are, we can work together through secure online sessions. Distance doesn’t have to keep you from getting the support you need. All it takes is one conversation to see if we’re the right fit.

Yes, I work with individuals across the entire United States through online therapeutic life coaching. While I’m based in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, my practice serves clients nationwide.
Traditional therapists are typically limited by state licensing laws. They can only see clients in states where they hold active licenses, which restricts access and creates barriers when clients move or travel.
Life coaching difference:
Therapeutic life coaching does not have the same state licensing restrictions as therapy. This means April can work with anyone anywhere in the United States, providing consistent support regardless of geographic location.
Research shows that online therapeutic approaches are equally effective as in-person sessions for most issues, including anxiety, life transitions, relationship struggles, and personal growth. The therapeutic relationship develops through connection, not proximity.
What you need:
• Reliable internet connection
• Private space for sessions
• Computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera
• Secure video platform (April provides access)
Session structure:
Online life coaching sessions are typically 50–60 minutes through HIPAA-compliant video platforms. You meet regularly (weekly or bi-weekly to start) from the comfort of your own home.
Advantages of online nationwide coaching
Access from anywhere:
• No commute time or traffic stress
• Work with April even if you live in a rural area without local resources
• Continue sessions if you travel or relocate
• Flexibility across time zones
Consistency and continuity:
• Same coach regardless of where life takes you
• No disruption to your healing work if you move
• Maintain relationships even during temporary relocations
• Access during travel for work or family
Comfort and safety:
• Sessions from your own safe space
• Privacy without running into people in waiting rooms
• Easier to be vulnerable in a familiar environment
• Technology becomes invisible as the relationship deepens
My practice is based in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, in the beautiful North Idaho region near the Idaho-Canadian border. While I live and work here, my online practice extends far beyond state lines.
If you strongly prefer face-to-face sessions and live outside the Bonners Ferry area, online coaching might require adjustment. However, most find that virtual sessions feel just as personal and effective after the first session or two.
Time zone considerations:
I work with clients across time zones and can often accommodate scheduling needs. Discuss your time zone and scheduling preferences during the initial consultation.
Legal and ethical considerations
When state-licensed therapy is needed:
For certain severe psychiatric conditions or situations requiring formal therapy documentation, state-licensed therapy in your location might be necessary. April can help identify these situations and provide referrals while potentially continuing coaching as complementary support.
If you’re anywhere in the United States and my approach resonates with you, don’t let geography keep you from getting the support you deserve. Online therapeutic life coaching with me provides the same depth of connection, clinical expertise, and transformative tools regardless of where you live.

My journey to therapeutic life coaching spans over two decades of personal growth and professional development, though my formal transition to life coaching is more recent.
The beginning: wilderness intervention
The defining moment (age 23):
My calling began during a wilderness intervention program in Utah when I was 23 years old. After ten years of struggling with drugs and alcohol, that primitive backpacking experience in the freezing winter changed everything.
The realization:
Within two weeks of being out there, learning to bust fire just to eat something hot, navigating with a map and a compass, and surviving with minimal resources, I knew my life purpose. I discovered my gift: to be a catalyst for change, to walk alongside people in their journey of healing, growth, and self-discovery.
Early professional work:
After finishing my bachelor’s degree, I returned to work at that wilderness program for three years as trail staff, helping teenagers and young adults navigate their own hard things. This hands-on experience shaped my understanding of transformation and healing.
Clinical training and therapy years
Master’s degree and licensure:
I pursued my master’s degree in social work and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I spent 18 years working as a therapist in various settings:
• Individual therapy with diverse populations
• Work with teenagers and young adults
• Specialization in addiction, trauma, and life transitions
• Group therapy facilitation
• Crisis assessment and intervention
Building clinical expertise:
During these years, I developed expertise in evidence-based approaches like EMDR, CBT, mindfulness-based interventions, and trauma-informed care. I gained the clinical foundation that now informs her life coaching work.
The transition to life coaching
Why the shift:
After 18 years in traditional therapy, I realized that insurance limitations, diagnosis requirements, and state licensing restrictions were getting in the way of the work I wanted to do. I wanted to offer something more personal, more flexible, and more focused on whole-person healing.
What changed:
Transitioning to therapeutic life coaching allowed April to:
• Work with individuals anywhere in the United States, not just in her licensed state
• Focus on life goals and growth without diagnosis mandates
• Build genuine relationships without insurance company oversight
• Meet clients where they are without clinical distance
• Combine therapeutic expertise with practical life application
Ongoing lived experience
Personal journey continuing:
Throughout her professional development, April has continued navigating her own hard things:
• Marriage betrayal and infidelity recovery
• Managing an undiagnosed autoimmune disorder for over a decade
• Chronic fatigue, neuropathy, and brain fog
• Rebuilding trust and relationships
• Living fully despite physical limitations
How this informs her work:
Every challenge I have faced deepens my empathy and understanding. I’m not just drawing on past experiences; I’m actively living the principles I teach about resilience, self-compassion, and moving forward through difficulty.
Current practice

Continued growth:
I continually learn and refine my approach based on what works with clients, current research, and my ongoing personal and professional development.
The depth of experience
More than years:
While specific timelines matter, what’s more significant is the depth and breadth of my experience:
• Over 20 years since the wilderness intervention that defined my calling
• 18 Years of clinical work as a licensed therapist
• Decades of personal healing and growth work
• Current practice combining all of this into therapeutic life coaching
What this means for you:
When you work with me, you’re getting someone who has:
• Spent her adult life committed to this work
• Deep clinical training and expertise
• Personal understanding of hard things
• Refined approach based on years of experience
• Continued commitment to growth and learning
Experience versus timeline
Quality over quantity:
Some coaches are brand new with minimal training. Others have been practicing for decades but haven’t grown beyond their initial certification. What matters most is the combination of:
April brings all of these:
My practice reflects both the wisdom of experience and the energy of someone who found their true calling and continues to live it daily.
